Under normal conditions, a surge protector is generally dormant or inactive, until when a larger than normal current happens, in which case the surge protector kicks in to safely divert the surplus current to the ground. By doing this, the surge protector ensure than surplus current doesn’t flow into any of your appliances, thus protecting them from damage.
